Biomarker Assays

Biomarker Assays

Agilux has the experience and capability to measure biomarkers by the most appropriate means, either ligand binding (including ELISA) or LC-MS/MS. Agilux can custom develop a fit-for-purpose biomarker assay to meet your specific needs or run commercially available assays. Agilux takes these challenging assays and makes the running of samples routine.

biomarker At Agilux Laboratories, we have decades of experience in the unique complexities of small molecule biomarker assay development and operation.  We have developed and applied small molecule biomarker assays with the following features and advantages:

  • Fit-for-purpose assay development to satisfy experimental objectives while simultaneously minimizing cost & timelines
      • Method qualifications ranging from quick, one-run discovery checks to extensive multi-day        qualifications that  adhere to the principles of GLP bioanalysis
  • Extensive use of stable, isotopically-labeled analyte analogs (surrogate analyte) and LC-MS/MS to enable:
    • Use of unaltered, representative matrices (e.g. non-stripped)
    • Surrogate calibration standard responses, enabling measurement for down-regulation or small         changes in  up-regulation
  • Use of stripped or synthetic matrix where surrogate analytes are unavailable
  • Stable, isotopically-labeled internal standards to improve assay performance and reliability
  • Single or multi-analyte (panel) biomarker assays to control costs and minimize timelines

As examples, Agilux has experience in the following classes of small molecule biomarker assay development, qualification and application:

  • Lipids: different ceramides, sphingosines, and their derivatives
  • Endocannabinoid-related compounds: AEA, OEA, PEA and LEA.
  • Nucleosides and nucleotides: cytosine, adenosine phosphates
  • Small organic acids: orotic acid, 2-hydroxyglutarate.
  • Endocrines: testosterone, progesterone and estrogen
  • Neurotransmitters: dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine

Utilizing commercially available kits, Agilux can analyze for a variety of large molecule biomarkers.

Examples of large molecule biomarker assays include:

  • Cytokines/chemokines
  • Lymphokines
  • Insulin, glucagon
  • Growth factors
  • Steroids (e.g., testosterone)
